Meet M. L. Carr, Our Featured Speaker
M. L. Carr has achieved success as an NBA player, coach, philanthropist, author, and entrepreneur. After graduating from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC, M.L. had a 10-year career playing basketball for the Detroit Pistons and the Boston Celtics, contributing to two NBA titles (1981 and 1984). He retired from the Celtics in 1985 and later returned as their head coach for the 1995 – 1997 seasons. He has founded several organizations, including M. L. Carr Enterprises, the M. L. Carr Scholarship Foundation at Guilford College and the John Henry Carr Alzheimer and Aging Foundation. His most recent venture is a social mission media company, WARM2Kids (We’re All Role Models to Kids), established to provide support for tough issues teens, young adults, and their parents face today. He is also a minority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats. In addition to his philanthropic and entrepreneurial endeavors, M.L. has authored three books: Don’t be Denied, Enough is Enough, and Winning Through Persistance.
As a result of his dedication to the community, he has received numerous awards and accolades including the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Image Award, the Judge Baker Children’s Center Camille Cosby Award, and the Toastmaster’s International Communications Achievement Award. Today, M.L. is on the Board of Trustees at Guilford College and continues to serve on several other charitable and corporate boards and foundations.
M. L. and Sylvia, his wife of over 30 years, make Boston, MA their home. The couple has three children, Michael, Andrea and Janine. |
